Wizards coach Randy Wittman knew better than to start rookie Jan Vesely against Blake Griffin when the L.A. Clippers came to D.C. to play the Wizards. Vesely still has that deer-in-the-headlights look about him at times, so Wittman opted to start Trevor Booker instead. But Booker got in early foul trouble, and Vesely had to come in halfway through the first quarter.
In the end, half of the Wizards frontcourt ended up in foul trouble as the realization sank in that they had three choices—get posterized by a Blake Griffin dunk, send him to the free throw line or just back off and let him score at will. JaVale McGee in particular spent more time than usual arguing with the officials hoping for calls that never came.

The Orlando Magic came into Wednesday night playing dangerously poor basketball. For the losers of four straight games, injuries were mounting and morale was falling daily. Wizards forward Andray Blatche will be out three to five weeks because of a strained left calf. Washington coach Randy Wittman made the announcement before Monday night's game against Chicago. Blatche was injured in Saturday's win in Charlotte. After an MRI exam, he was advised to stay off his feet.

Over the past week, it appeared that the Washington Wizards were maturing as a ball club. They were playing more team oriented basketball, which lead to a victory over the NBA leading Oklahoma City Thunder. They were no longer getting blown out by every opponent they played.
